Nigerian Government in a statement by the the Director, Media and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Health said the current Yellow card will be phased out and replaced with a new e-Yellow Card with effect from July 1
Yellow Card is the proof of vaccination against yellow fever and mandatory for international travellers from risk countries like Nigeria to have as evidence of vaccination against Yellow Fever disease.
The statemen said the new card would contain enhanced security features that could be easily verified anywhere in the world through the scanning of the bar code or checking the card number on the Yellow card portal.
The introduction of the new e-Yellow Card according to the Ministry’s spokesperson is to address the issue of fake cards which hitherto constituted a source of national embarrassment.
The World Health Organisation recommended that all international travellers, aged nine months and above visiting Nigeria, must be vaccinated against yellow fever.
Yellow fever is a viral haemorrhagic fever caused by a virus transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito and may cause fatal illness but it is however, preventable with a shot of the Yellow fever vaccine
