Dwabrem durbar ground inside Manhyia palace the official residence of the Otumfuo was on Sunday agog with colourful display of cultural Kente dresses, firing of musketry. tantalising dancing steps from ‘Atumpan’, fontomfrom and other traditional drums to the admiration of guests.
The ceremony marked the Akwasidae-Kese durbar which was the hallmark of the 20th coronation anniversary of the amiable and colourful Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.
The Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu II, Nananom, President Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo along with past Ghanaian leaders, world leaders, traditional rulers and dignitaries welcomed the Asantehene as he rode in a royal palanquin to the durbar ground at Dwabrem.
Otumfuo fondly revered to as “King Solomon” for his mastery of dispute settlement was born 6 May 1950 and is the 16th Asantehene (Paramount king) of the Ashanti Kingdom.
Married to Lady Julia whom he extolled with the following loving words ” let me thank you publicly for the love and support you have given me throughout our marriage. I could not have carried out the heavy burden of my responsibilities without you being by my side”.
