.The ancient Kingdom of Benin was thrown into mourning on Friday 29th April 2016 when the palace officially announced the transition to higher glory of His Royal Majesty Omo n’Oba n’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Erediauwa, the revered monarch of Benin Kingdom. He was aged 93.
Oba Erediauwa was born on June 22, 1923 to the late Oba Akenzua II. Before been crowned on the 23rd of March 1979, he was known as Prince Solomon Aiseokhuoba Igbinoghodua Akenzua. He attended Government College Ibadan from 1939-1945, then the Yaba College before proceeding to the the Kings College Cambridge to study Law and Administration.
He enlisted into the Eastern Nigeria Civil Service in 1957 as a District Officer, before transferring to the Federal Civil Service and retired meritoriously as a Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health in 1973. He thereafter served as Commissioner for Finance in the defunct Bendel State.
The Edo State Government has declared five days mourning period for the late Oba Erediauwa and also directed that the nation`s flag should be flown at half- mast throughout the mourning period
